UPCOMING HIKE

SAN ELIJO LAGOON AND ANNIE'S CANYON TRAIL

We have a hike coming up on Saturday morning May 23, 2026; here are the details:

When: Saturday May 23rd at 8:30 am (when we will meet at the trailhead parking lot).

About the hike: We will be hiking around portions of San Elijo Lagoon as well as taking an offshoot to explore Annie’s Canyon Trail (ACT). One of our members, Jessica Navarro, told me about ACT which is a narrow slot canyon with a couple of ladders that sounds really fun (dogs aren’t allowed in ACT, but there is an alternative route for our dog lovers). The hike is about four miles with a moderate elevation gain of about 400’. Dogs on leash are OK except in the ¼ mile slot canyon.

Where: On Google Maps, enter “San Elijo Activity Hub Park & Ride,” which is about 38 miles from church and about a 42-45 minute drive. You will want to get to the 805 North, and it will merge with the I-5 North. Get off at Manchester Avenue (Exit 39); at the bottom of the off-ramp, turn left (east) onto Manchester, go 0.1 miles and turn left onto Via Poco. Continue on Via Poco a short distance to turn left into the parking lot.

One option is to carpool from church – please let me know if you are interested. At the trailhead parking lot, I will have an “Eastlake Hike” sign on my car. If you plan to go, please let me know so I will be looking for you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Here are the details for our upcoming bike ride:

IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION

Hiking in natural areas can present a variety of potential hazards, starting with uneven terrain, loose gravel, and obstacles on trails that can result in slips/trips/falls. Conditions on hikes can also potentially lead to dermatitis from poison oak, heat illness, snake bites, and insect stings or bites. Always take appropriate precautions and come prepared for the hike. Wear solid footwear with good tread and clothing to fit the weather. Apply sunscreen as needed and bring plenty of water, a minimum of one quart. For cool weather, layer your clothing so you are warm enough but can take off outer layers if you get warm.

For bike rides, it's always a good idea to wear a helmet and follow traffic rules for bicycles.
