UPCOMING HIKE

 SAN DIEGO HARBOR & DOWNTOWN

We have a hike coming up on Saturday morning June 20, 2026; here are the details:

When: Saturday June 20th at 9 am (when we will meet at the parking lot).

About the hike: This will be an urban “hike” of about three miles giving you close-ups of San Diego landmarks. We will go by the U.S.S. Midway, make a stop at the San Diego Central Library, head by Petco Park and the Convention Center, and meander a bit in Seaport Village. You will want to come back to the Central Library on your own since it has too much to see in a relatively short visit, but we will head to the roof viewing deck and briefly check out some of the art and rare book exhibits. Near the end of our trek, Seaport Village might just be where you find a donut, some fudge, or a Dole soft serve.

Where: On Google Maps, enter “Embarcadero Marina Park North” (which may show “PR4J+Q6, 1 Embarcadero Marina North, San Diego, CA 92101”). It is about 20 miles from church. NOTE – the public parking lot costs $2.50 per hour, and I am planning to pay for three hours just to be safe.

One option is to carpool from church – please let me know if you are interested. At the parking lot, I will have an “Eastlake Hike” sign on my car. If you plan to go, please let me know so I will be looking for you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION

Hiking in natural areas can present a variety of potential hazards, starting with uneven terrain, loose gravel, and obstacles on trails that can result in slips/trips/falls. Conditions on hikes can also potentially lead to dermatitis from poison oak, heat illness, snake bites, and insect stings or bites. Always take appropriate precautions and come prepared for the hike. Wear solid footwear with good tread and clothing to fit the weather. Apply sunscreen as needed and bring plenty of water, a minimum of one quart. For cool weather, layer your clothing so you are warm enough but can take off outer layers if you get warm.

For bike rides, it's always a good idea to wear a helmet and follow traffic rules for bicycles.
