UPCOMING HIKE

PACIFIC CREST TRAIL: BOULDER OAKS TO KITCHEN CREEK

We have a hike coming up on Saturday morning April 11, 2026; here are the details:

When: Saturday April 11th at 8:30 am (when we will meet at the trailhead parking lot).

About the hike: We will be taking a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail for most of our hike. It is an out-and-back trek of five miles with an elevation gain of about 800’ (according to AllTrails). We will get some good cardio with the elevation gain so you won’t need to go to the gym in the afternoon. Solid shoes are always important, and since much of the trail is not very shaded, a hat and/or sunscreen are a good idea, along with your water. Dogs are OK on a leash.

Where: On Google Maps, enter “Pacific Crest Trail, Boulder Oaks Trailhead” (which will show Old Highway 80, Campo, CA). It is 50 miles from church, about a 45 minute drive according to Google when I checked it. The route will take you on I-8 East, getting off at Buckman Springs Road (exit 51). You will turn right onto Buckman Springs Road and in just 300 feet you will turn left onto Old Highway 80. Drive 2.2 miles and where you will turn right into Boulder Oaks Trailhead (and campground).

One option is to carpool from church – please let me know if you are interested. At the trailhead parking lot, I will have an “Eastlake Hike” sign on my car. If you plan to go, please let me know so I will be looking for you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION

Hiking in natural areas can present a variety of potential hazards, starting with uneven terrain, loose gravel, and obstacles on trails that can result in slips/trips/falls. Conditions on hikes can also potentially lead to dermatitis from poison oak, heat illness, snake bites, and insect stings or bites.

Always take appropriate precautions and come prepared for the hike. Wear solid footwear with good tread and clothing to fit the weather. Apply sunscreen as needed and bring plenty of water, a minimum of one quart. For cool weather, layer your clothing so you are warm enough but can take off outer layers if you get warm.
