UPCOMING HIKE

TORREY PINES

We have a hike coming up on Saturday morning August 15, 2026; here are the details:

When: Saturday August 15th at 8:30 am (when we will meet at the Torrey Pines Reserve Lodge and Visitor Center parking lot).

About the hike: We will be taking a four-mile circuit around Torrey Pines State Park, including some key overlooks, with about 400’ of elevation gain. Dogs are not allowed. The hike is beautiful but offers very little shade so bring your water and sunscreen. Parking at Torrey Pines is expensive - $25. This is how you solve that: carpool (see below), or use your library card to check out a State Park Pass (generally good for 10 days) from your local library.

Where: On Google Maps, enter “Torrey Pines Reserve Lodge and Visitor Center.” It is about a 45 minute drive from church. After the I-5 and I-805 merge, continue north and get off at Carmel Valley Road (Exit 33B), turning left onto Carmel Valley Road. Continue to N. Torrey Pines Road where you will turn left. In a little less than a mile, you will go into the State Park on the right. Show your Library State Park Pass at the kiosk (or pay). Continue up the road to the parking lot for the Lodge and Visitor Center.

As noted, one option to avoid a pricey park entrance is to carpool from church – please let me know if you are interested. At the Lodge and Visitor Center parking lot, I will have an “Eastlake Hike” sign on my car. If you plan to go, please let me know so I will be looking for you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION

Hiking in natural areas can present a variety of potential hazards, starting with uneven terrain, loose gravel, and obstacles on trails that can result in slips/trips/falls. Conditions on hikes can also potentially lead to dermatitis from poison oak, heat illness, snake bites, and insect stings or bites. Always take appropriate precautions and come prepared for the hike. Wear solid footwear with good tread and clothing to fit the weather. Apply sunscreen as needed and bring plenty of water, a minimum of one quart. For cool weather, layer your clothing so you are warm enough but can take off outer layers if you get warm.

For bike rides, it's always a good idea to wear a helmet and follow traffic rules for bicycles.
